Sketchbook Lesson

Finding time to have students do written reflections can be a challenge. With my current schedule, I only see each of my 23 classes once a week for 45 minutes. Creating these sketchbooks has allowed me and my students the opportunity to make reflections a part of our every day schedule!

I've tailored my sketchbooks for grades 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th. I tried sketchbooks with kindergarten and 1st grade, but it was too much of a challenge for those grade levels. 2nd-3rd grade and 4th-5th grade sketchbooks contain different pages for reflection. 2nd-3rd contains more image based responses while 4th-5th has more written responses. Each response page also has space for students to create a picture based on their response and class project!

These sketchbooks are great for early finishers as well as scheduled time during each class for students to reflect on their work. After years of using this method, I've refined the sketchbook pages to include blank pages for brainstorming and other uses! Scroll down for sketchbook lesson my PowerPoint and documents!

Do you use sketchbooks in your classroom? How do you implement them in your classroom?
